Crisis Text Line also partners with The Trevor Project to provide suicide prevention and crisis intervention services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer youth. To start a conversation, text GOT5 to 741741, or GOTYU to 741741.

The service is free, but standard messaging rates apply.

Crisis Text Line works with local communities to serve people in need and connect them with help locally. They support people from all walks of life, including those from the LGBTQ community. They have trained staff available 24/7 to provide support. In 2019, they supported 84 million people through 1.4 million conversations between Crisis Counselors and texters. Anxiety was the most common issue, followed by depression. They also saw an increase in conversations about eating disorders and body image issues.

I love volunteering at Crisis Text Line because it is so rewarding to help people in their time of need. The community of other volunteers is awesome and the Supervisors are always there to support you and guide you through your shift. Plus, it is a flexible volunteer opportunity with great training!

Many young people of color have unmet mental health needs, especially college students. Through a partnership with the Steve Fund, we’ve made it easier for young people of color to access crisis counselors by adding the keyword STEVE to 741741. This allows teens to connect with a live Crisis Counselor in the moment they need help. This is just one way we’re empowering youth to take control of their own health and wellness through the power of text.
